Bitless Bridle - Riding Bitless Bridle - Riding

Want to try Bitless... ?

Want to try Bitless but not sure?

Lots of people want to try a bitless bridle, but are understandably apprehensive of going against that which has been instilled in all of us from an early age; bit = control. If you have read even a small proportion of the information on this website, you will realise that certainly is not the case!

Bitless Bridle UK can help...

We can offer you the opportunity to try bitless at our premises in Wales (between Lampeter & Aberystwyth) in several ways (by appointment only please):

  • ride one of our horses in their Bitless Bridles (several of which have NEVER worn a bit)

    • In our fairly modest indoor manege or

    • out for a hack involving some roadwork, mostly bridlepaths & country lanes

  • bring your own horse to try in a Dr Cook's Bitless Bridle either

    • on your own

    • with a friend

    • under the expert eye of our BHSAI Rosemary Carrington-Rogers who can be available to give tuition (by appointment) if required. Rosemary is also (as of May 2007) an official "Bitless Bridle Instructor" BBI - the first one to be appointed outside USA.

  • again this can be in our manege, followed by a short hack, or just in the manege if preferred

Demos & Clinics

We will be offering occasional clinics and demos throughout the year, these will cover

  • keeping our horses more naturally

  • using the crossunder bitless bridle for groundwork (games, lunging, long-lining, polework etc)

  • riding in a crossunder bitless bridle

  • barefoot trimming

  • loading problems

Get in touch (email or phone), let us know what you would like to do and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

We can provide details of bed & breakfast accommodation very close by for anyone travelling any distance and we can accommodate a small number of horses here, with field turnout available for barefoot / unshod horses.

Clarification: menage or manege ?

Menage means 'household' or 'housekeeping' (as in 'menage a trois' = 'household of three')

Manege has 3 meanings:

1 : a school for teaching horsemanship and for training horses
2 : the art of horsemanship or of training horses
3 : the movements or paces of a trained horse
